A Dare to Be You Friendship!

Friendship is not about whom you have known the longest; it’s a discovery in the shared experience of another. We travel this life journey with a feeling; if not an acquired belief, that we are alone in our endeavors. Carrying vast libraries of experiences within our beings, we rush past each other to carry out our daily errands. While we are known by some, we hide from others. I think Henry Wadsworth Longfellow said it best. “If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.”

 Friendship

The most profound friendships begin with a look into the eye of another and the discovery that they have been on a similar journey. I am always humbled by the realization that someone else has seen what I have seen or known aspects of my own journey when I thought I was unique in my travels.

This is why knowing another is such a profound treasure. It completes the reflection in the mirror of all time. It allows for the song of a sunset to be set free. It’s recognition of the soul of an artist reflected in her artwork. It allows for a sweet breath of fresh air to embrace all comprehension that we are not alone in our experiences. And all the while we may find along our life journey, a friend or two that may have been where we may have been and seen what we have seen. We must never stop foraging our own paths along our trails of discovery. For only by daring to ourselves we learn to truly connect with another being.
